Swedish amateur Elin Esborn shot an opening 65, six under par, to lead the Ladies Norwegian Open by two shots from in-form Englishwoman Charlotte Thompson at Skjeberg GC, near Oslo.

Esborn completed a bogey free round with three birdies on the front nine and four on the back, which included back to back birdies on the 17th and 18th holes.

Thompson, who lost in a three-hole play-off to Spain’s Maria Parra last week, recorded eight birdies in her round but mixed these with three bogeys, to post a 5 under par total, 67.

Frenchwomen Alexandra Bonetti and Astrid Vayson de Pradenne are both tied a further shot back at 4 under par, with rounds of 68.
